Auld was a photographer and artist during his service, selling battle photographs and drawings to newspapers and journals and fellow soldiers. His whereabouts were reported as unknown at the end of the war. He participated in the battles of Tullahoma, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga, and, later, served with Sherman in Georgia.
